About

Nagori (名残) is a Japanese word for the trace something leaves behind — the lingering scent of a season, the warmth a hand leaves on a cup, the quiet beauty of an object that has been used and loved. It is also, in the language of tea, the wistful appreciation of a season as it departs.

We named this site Nagori Ware because that is the kind of object we care about: tableware and tea things chosen to last, and to linger. Not trends. Not disposable. The bowl you reach for every day for twenty years.

What we do. Nagori Ware is an independent guide to Japanese tableware and tea. We research materials, regional wares, and the makers behind them — so you can understand what you’re buying and buy well the first time. We cover rice bowls and dinnerware, matcha and teaware, cast iron and ceramics: the objects of the Japanese table.

How we work. We don’t sell products. We study them — the difference between porcelain and stoneware, why a Hasami bowl feels different from a Mino one, how a bowl should sit in the hand — and we point you to the specialist shops in Japan that make and stock them. When you buy through our links, we may earn a small referral fee, at no extra cost to you. That is how the site stays free and independent.

Who it’s for. Anyone setting a more considered table — whether you’re buying your first proper rice bowl, choosing a matcha set, or looking for a gift that will still be in use in a decade.

Welcome. Take your time.
